NZQA exemption list update

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) are making the second round of changes to the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA). These come into effect on 25 March 2024.

The LQEA is a publicly available list which sets out the comparable New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework level and qualification type for specified overseas qualifications.

The LQEA is used for the new Skilled Migrant Category, Green List Straight to Residence, Green List and Sector Work to Residence and Accredited Employer Work visas.

On 25 March the LQEA will be updated with qualifications awarded in these countries:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • China
  • Fiji
  • Japan

In addition, updates will be made to the list for these countries added to the LQEA in September 2023;

  • United States of America

The updates to countries already on the LQEA includes adding:

  • Master’s degrees to the list of qualifications awarded in Malaysia
